The Brief

Latte on the Rocks, a premium café on Victoria Rd in Parramatta, needed a website that did more than list a menu — it needed to capture the feel of walking through the door: the smell of fresh coffee, the warmth of the space, the craft behind every plate. Alongside the website, Empedance was asked to take ownership of the café's social media presence, building an audience that would translate online attention into footfall and orders. The goal was a single, cohesive brand experience — from the first Instagram scroll to the final "Reserve a Table" click.

Discovery & Research

The team started by understanding what makes a great café website different from a generic restaurant site: it lives or dies on mood. Diners deciding on breakfast or brunch are shopping on feeling as much as menu — so the research focused on Parramatta's café-going crowd, what draws them in (quick, easy ordering; a comfortable place to work or catch up with friends), and what keeps them coming back (consistently great coffee and food, served fast).

This shaped three priorities for the build: a homepage that sells the experience before the menu, frictionless paths to the two actions that matter most — reserve a table or order now — and a visual language warm and premium enough to match the in-café experience.

Design Process

The design leans into rich, moody photography and video — cinemagraph-style clips of pouring lattes, sizzling burgers, and eggs benedict plated to order — paired with an elegant serif display typeface for headlines that reads like a menu card rather than a corporate template. A warm gold-and-charcoal palette echoes the café's own signage and interior.

Every section was designed to move a visitor toward a decision: a hero built around two clear calls to action (Reserve a Table, Order Now), a "Bestsellers" section that showcases the food in motion rather than static photos, a "Why Choose Us" section addressing real customer priorities (fresh food, quick service, a welcoming space), and a gallery that captures the atmosphere of the café itself — because for a hospitality brand, the room is part of the product.

Engineering & Build

  • Next.js
  • Responsive Web Design
  • Booking System
  • Social Media Management
  • Tailwind

A team of 4 — 2 designers and 2 developers — built and shipped the site:

  • A fast, SEO-optimised Next.js site tuned for local search (Parramatta cafe, best coffee Parramatta, brunch Parramatta)
  • Integrated ordering and reservation pathways, connecting directly to Uber Eats, Quandoo, HeyYou, and Skip so customers can order or book without leaving the flow they're already in
  • A downloadable digital menu and a WhatsApp chat link for instant, low-friction customer contact
  • A dedicated gallery and social proof layer, tying the website directly into the café's growing Instagram and Facebook presence

Beyond the build, Empedance took on ongoing social media management for the brand — content, community, and growth — helping turn the website's polish into a following that now stands at 9,000+ followers.
